In case you don’t know, Google is finally pushing the stake into Hangout’s chest. The company previously took the app down from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. Now, the only way to use the service is either through the web client or though Gmail. The company is pushing its users over to its chat service named Google Chats. This adds Hangouts to Google’s graveyard of dead chat services.

You can download your Hangout message history until January 1st

Most people who made the switch over to Chats found their Hangouts chats already ported over. That’s not the case for everyone, unfortunately. Google stated that it wasn’t able to move over everyone’s data from Hangouts to Chats. However, it provides a solution in the form of Google Takeout. With this, you’re able to download your Hangouts message history. It’s the best that you can do at this point. If you’re planning on doing this, you’ll need to do it as soon as you can. According to 9to5Google, the Google Hangouts website is also going to go away November 1st. At that point, you’ll lose all access to Google Hangouts. While this is true, you’ll be able to download your history until January 1st 2023. After that, all of the Hangouts data will be deleted. Then, Google Hangouts will be gone for good. At this point, you should start getting ready to make the transition over to Google Chats. You have just under two months to be able to access Hangouts, so you don’t have much time. You can access Google Chats through the app and through your Google Workspace suit.
