This is an interesting dynamic, as we’re not used to paying companies for a more robust messaging experience. Twitter Blue has some features that regular Twitter users can’t use like being able to edit tweets. Snapchat+ lets users test out new and experimental features coming to the platform.

But, the WhatsApp subscription may be tailored toward business users

WhatsApp really isn’t the fun type of communication app like Facebook Messenger. A lot of people use it for business communication. This is the reason why the company is going in this direction. You’re not getting things like extra emojis or animated stickers. The features coming to the WhatsApp subscription or focused on business identity and higher productivity. First off, you will be able to have a customized contact link for your profile. This will make it easier for people to find you on the platform. You can change your custom link once every 90 days, though most people may not need to change it at all.

Next, the business subscription will allow you to connect your account to up to 10 devices. One of the main gripes with WhatsApp is only being able to use it on one device. However, the company is looking to change that. Lastly, you will be able to have video calls with up to 32 participants. This is great if you own a small company, and you need to host meetings over the air. At this point, this subscription is still in beta testing, so you could see more or less functionality when it officially hits the public. Also, we’re still waiting on an official word on the price. We don’t really expect it to be more than $5/month, but that’s just speculation.
