The shut down for The Witcher: Monster Slayer may not come as a surprise to some. The AR mobile game formula has been attempted by many a studio since the wild success of Niantic’s Pokémon GO. But few games if any have recaptured that same success. That being said, players definitely still seemed to enjoy being a Witcher in real life. CDPR says that to date, players have slain over 100 million monsters worldwide.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer will shut down in June, but wind down in February

While the game is planned to be taken offline on June 30, it’ll start to wind down much earlier. CD PROJEKT RED will start to wind down the game in February. The publisher will pull the game from Google Play and the App Store on January 31, then start to put the game through some “major changes” from February 1 onwards. Naturally players can still enjoy the game up until its June 30 closure. But as of right now there’s no telling what the major changes will be. Or how much content players will have access to. In addition to the game closing, CDPR will also be moving over some of the staff from Spokko dev team. The mobile game studio that worked on the game. Not all employees will transition to other teams, but those that are staying will be moved into roles within CDPR to work on other projects. CDPR also says that it’ll work to make the transition for those that are leaving “as easy and safe as possible.”
