This comes as a surprise since we haven’t heard of this before. All of these devices have been subject to numerous leaks recently but none claimed a missing charger in the retail box. More importantly, Samsung has so far only shipped flagship products without an in-box charging brick. Budget and mid-range products have always come with a bundled power adapter. That said, we have enough reasons to believe this rumor. For one, this is bound to happen, today or tomorrow. The smartphone market is getting more competitive than ever, the low-cost segment in particular. So companies are looking for ways to save some cost. Of course, manufacturers will give it the name of sustainability and that isn’t incorrect. But that isn’t the only reason either. It’s a lot about the profit margins too.

Budget smartphones may soon start shipping without chargers in the box

Back in 2020, when Apple announced that its iPhone 12 series will ship without a charger in the box, Samsung was quick to mock it. But that didn’t age well as the Korean firm launched its Galaxy S21 series without the power brick just a few months later. All of its flagships products, including the expensive foldables, have since come sans the charging adapter. It appears the company is now considering dropping the charger from its affordable smartphones as well. If the aforementioned four Galaxy devices aren’t getting it, the likes of the Galaxy A33, Galaxy A53, and the Galaxy A73 may not either. This decision may irk some fans but this is surely the way forward. Perhaps Samsung already knows that many buyers don’t consider the lack of an in-box charger a dealbreaker when buying a new smartphone. So brace yourself for a new norm pretty soon. Smartphone boxes may ship with, erm… just a smartphone inside it in the not-so-distant future. And we are not talking just about Samsung. One day or the other, all smartphone manufacturers will go this route.
