First off, there are two S-Pen models that are going to be available for the Galaxy Z Fold 3. There’s the S-Pen Pro and S-Pen Fold Edition. The S-Pen Pro has Bluetooth and is a bit larger, while the Fold Edition is just your standard S-Pen.  Samsung claims that this is the best S-Pen experience yet, though Samsung also claims that with every new smartphone release that uses the S-Pen. So take that with a grain of salt.

So what did Samsung do to make S-Pen work with Galaxy Z Fold 3?

As you know, the display on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 is softer than a regular display on a smartphone. While it is more durable this time around, it’s still somewhat soft. So Samsung had to make some changes to the S-Pen.  Firstly, the S-Pen now has an auto retractable tip. So when you start to press hard on the display with the S-Pen, it will automatically retract the tip. This is done to protect the display. And is actually kinda ingenious. The tip is also more rounded this time around, which in conjunction with the auto retractable tip, protects the display.  Speaking of the display, Samsung also added some more layers to the display, so that it could work with the S-Pen. So you’ll be able to use the S-Pen without worrying about it damaging the display.  The S-Pen will be sold separately, and of course the S-Pen Fold Edition will be the cheaper option, as it doesn’t need to charge via the case. We have not seen pricing on the S-Pens yet, however.
