Instagram removed the Recent tab from hashtags and replaced it with some interesting choices

The company posted a tweet thread explaining the changes that it made, and it’s as you’d expect: a lot of PR speak. Basically, where you would usually search a hashtag, you’d get the results starting with the most recently posted content. This is what people really like to see, but that changed. In the thread, Instagram told us that, for a small group of people, it removed the Recent tab for hashtags and replaced it with a Reels tab and a Top tab. If you don’t like this, there’s no telling if the company will make this change permanent or not. It’s only testing it out for some users. The Reels tab is pretty self-explanatory; it’ll show you all the Reels posted for that hashtag. As for the Top tab, this is where Instagram’s algorithm comes in. It will prioritize content based on how well it performs. Instagram most likely looks at metrics like views, likes, and comments, and pushes more popular posts to the top. While this seems like it makes sense, there are a lot of people who won’t like this. A lot of the time, the most popular posts on the internet are the most silly or pointless. This is why people have been begging for a chronological feed for Instagram. Users don’t like being fed algorithmically-picked popular content.

In Other Instagram News: Everyone In The US Can Tan Products In Posts

A while ago, Instagram announced that it was giving more people the ability to tag products in their posts. Now, everyone in the US can tag products in their posts. To tag a product, start the tagging process as normal. When you tap on a spot on your image, type in the company’s name first. Then, you’ll see two buttons on the bottom of the screen. Tap the one that says “Product”. When you do that, you’ll be able to select which product from the company you want to tag. After that, just post the image as normal.
