If you have max level crafters and haven’t really started prepping yet, now is the time. As the more you have prepped the more you’ll be able to take advantage of when the patch goes live. The reason you want to be prepped is because once the patch goes live, the most Gil will likely be made within the first few hours just like with patch 6.05. So, with that knowledge in-hand, the idea is to try and get everything done in this guide that you can. Then come patch day, you’ll be ready to hit the ground running.

How to prep your crafters for Final Fantasy XIV patch 6.1

To start, make sure your crafters are at max level. Meaning they’ve hit level 90 and all recipes are unlocked. This includes all master recipes books for each crafter at 90. The key here is going to be making sure you’re ready to craft as soon as the patch drops. That way you can in turn put everything of value that’s new up on the market board as quickly as possible. The downside is you may have to prioritize. And it won’t necessarily be easy to tell what’s going to sell quickly for high amounts of Gil and what won’t. So the idea is to just be prepped with enough currency and materials. By doing so, you can focus on what appears to be the most profitable stuff.

Start by capping out your white and purple scrips

We’re talking about both crafter’s scrips and gatherer’s scrips here. You’ll want to be capped out on these as you will need those to buy up certain materials for crafting recipes or materia for the new gear. You can hold up to 2,000 white and purple scrips each for both crafters and gatherers. This is a good starting point. So you’re prepared with the required currency to get the necessary materials for any new recipes that pop up. These new crafted items will potentially be good money makers. And the more you can make as quickly as possible to sell, the better.

Stockpile collectibles for scrip turn ins

Once you have your scrips capped out at the maximum, the next thing you should focus on is amassing a stockpile of collectibles to turn in for scrips once you run out of the ones you have. The less time you have to spend crafting collectibles to turn in the better as that means more time for you being able to craft the new items that will sell. You can help this by having collectibles ready to go. You’re going to want to craft a collectible for both the white and purple scrips. And your goal here for the white scrips should be to craft the level 89 item as that will give you the most white scrips per turn in as long as your collectible score on each crafted collectible is maxed out. Any collectibles will work here as long as it’s the level 90 item for purple scrips and the level 89 item for white scrips. I am personally using Rarefied Sykon Bavarois for purple scrips and Rarefied Giant Popoto Pancakes for the white scrips. But you could just as easily do something like the Rarefied Chondrite Lapidary Hammer for purple scrips and the Rarefied Chondrite Culinary Knife for white scrips. This might actually be better as it will allow you the best opportunity for spiritbonding your gear. Which collectibles you make are up to you, of course. Just use this suggestion as a guide for which two you pick. I’m also prepping enough to completely fill two retainers up with each collectible. So, there will be two retainers maxed with 175 Rarefied Sykon Bavarois each. And two retainers maxed with 175 Rarefied Popoto Pancakes each.

Stockpile some gathering collectibles as well

Just as you did with the collectible crafted items, you will want to stockpile some gathering collectibles as well. It doesn’t matter whether you go for Miner or Botanist here. As long as the principle is the same. The level 90 collectible for purple scrips and the level 89 collectible for white scrips.

Have some materia ready to go

Since crafters are getting new tools and left side items in this upcoming patch, you may want some materia ready to go for melding. If you’ve already got a healthy stock set aside, then don’t worry about this particular step. But it never hurts to have more. As you can always sell off what you don’t need. Some good ways to stock up on materia include the spiritbonding of your gear. This way you can extract it once it hits a spiritbond of level 100. Additionally, buying what you need with scrips is another option. Purple scrips will allow you to buy the level X materia. While white scrips will allow you to buy levels IV through IX.

Make sure you’re capped on tomestones

You’re also going to want to be capped on tomestones if at all possible. There may not be any new tomestone crafting materials coming with patch 6.1. But there will likely be new recipes that will use the existing materials. You’ll need tomestones to buy those. Specifically, Tomestone of Aphorism. On that note, if you’re already capped, then it’s also a good idea to start using those tomestones to buy some of the tomestone materials now. Then work your way towards capping the tomestones again. Ideally, you’d have wanted to start buying the tomestone crafting materials weeks ago. And if you’re cramming it all into this last week before the patch, you’ll be completing a lot of dungeons and duties to hit cap and then purchase more materials. Then rinse repeat. It’s certainly doable, but it will definitely be a grind. Try to shoot for a couple hundred of each tomestone material alongside your capped amount of 2,000 Tomestones of Aphorism.

Stock up on base crafting materials and gatherable materials

There are a number of mats you’ll want to keep on hand just in case you need them. We would suggest making sure you have a decent amount of things like the Mempisang Log, Rime Dolomite, Golden Cocoon, Double-Edged Herb, and Stonehard Water. Since you may need these for new recipes going into Final Fantasy XIV patch 6.1, you’ll want your crafters ready to either make what needs these materials or sell them on the market board as the prices will probably shoot up on these materials. Keep in mind that again, prices will likely be at their highest for some or most stuff early on, as this is what happened with patch 6.05.

Other things you can do to prep for the patch

While the steps above are all the main things you’ll want to focus on, there are still some other things you can do to make sure your crafters are prepped for Final Fantasy XIV patch 6.1

Stock up on materials for meals

With a new alliance raid and a new unreal trial, lots of players are going to be heading in to do this content on day one. This is your chance as a culinarian to capitalize on this opportunity and have meals ready to sell. These will likely shoot up in price within the first few hours and throughout the first day of the patch. So it’s a good idea to have lots of meals from master recipes IX stocked and ready to sell. You should also make sure you have all the necessary materials for meals. There will be one ingredient that can be bought with purple crafters scrips. So try to stock up on at least 300 of each material. Though if you have the time it won’t hurt to have two or three times that. The other materials will either need to be gathered, or crafted by your culinarian. Try to have these ready to go in addition to any pre-made meals. Then you’ll have plenty to sell. People are going to want to prep for the new content. So selling meals should be easy money.

Make sure you have enough crystals

In addition to the crafting materials for all the recipes, you’ll need plenty of crystals for each craft. This includes fire, earth, water, ice, and wind crystals as well as clusters and shards. You can have 9,999 of each type on your person. But you can also have that same amount for each type stored with each retainer. So it’s not a bad idea to have plenty of backstock in multiple retainers. That is if you’re planning on crafting all day. As you’ll run out quickly.
