Marques Brownlee, a well-known YouTuber who owns the MKBHD channel, decided to do this test. He included 16 smartphones in this test, including the most powerful and best-known phones out there.
The Pixel 6a managed to beat 15 other devices in a blind camera test
Yes, the iPhone 14 Pro, Galaxy S22 Ultra, and Pixel 7 Pro were all included here. As was the Vivo X80 Pro+, the Sony Xperia 1 IV, and the OPPO Find X5 Pro. Here’s a list of the remaining devices that were included: Huawei Mate 50 Pro, Moto Edge 30 Ultra, Nothing Phone (1), OnePlus 10 Pro, Pixel 6a, Realme 10 Pro+, ASUS ROG Phone 6, iPhone SE, Xiaomi 12s Ultra, and the ASUS ZenFone 9. As you can see, Marques included basically every smartphone you’d think of when you think of great camera phones, and some additional ones to see if they can surprise us. The Pixel 6a won, interestingly enough. It was followed by the Pixel 7 Pro, and the ZenFone 9, which some of you may also find surprising.
The viewers chose the winners
The winner was actually chosen by the viewers. This time around, however, Marques decided to use a dedicated website in order to allow people to vote, instead of doing it directly via Twitter. Participants were shown two photos and were asked to choose the better one. There was, of course, no way to figure out from which phone which photo camera. So, phones/photos got eliminated that way, one by one, until we got our winner. In fact, to tally up the result, Marques used an ELO rating system. It was used to break down devices into ‘Best Overall’, ‘Best HDR’, and ‘Best Portrait’ categories.
The iPhone 14 Pro didn’t exactly shine here
As already mentioned, the Pixel 6a took the ‘Best Overall’ win, and was followed by the Pixel 7 Pro, and the ZenFone 9. The Galaxy S22 Ultra was fifth overall, while the iPhone 14 Pro was 7th. The OPPO Find X5 Pro claimed the ‘Best Standard’ shot win, while the Pixel 7 Pro won the ‘Best Low Light’ and ‘Best Portrait’ shot. The Xperia 1 IV and Moto Edge 30 Ultra were at the very bottom, believe it or not. You can check out the video that Marques published, it’s embedded below.
