Sending videos through Google Photos should improve quality

This feature is far from making it to phones, so don’t dig into your app for it. In a screenshot, we see some settings on the Google Messages app, and one of them reads “Google Photos: Sharper clarity video in text (SMS/MMS). When you want to send a video to someone, you’ll be able to do so straight from Google Messages. This could be useful for someone who doesn’t want to bother with different communication apps. How this will most likely work is much like sending files through Google Drive. If you want to send a large file via email, Google will upload the file to drive, and send a link to download the video instead. So, if you want to send a video through Google Messages, it will be uploaded through Google Photos. The person on the other side will then get a link to download the video.

This feature may or may not actually come

We’re not sure if this feature will even come out. It was discovered hidden in the code for the latest version of the Messages app, so it’s not really official at all. Developers often put the code for future features in their app’s current version. Since the code is hidden in the app and not officially announced, Google could pull it at any moment. Only time will tell if this will stick around.

This feature could be really useful

Honestly, if implemented, sending videos through Google Photos could potentially be a popular feature. It’s an all-in-one solution for sending videos to people. If you want to send videos through Facebook or other social media sites, the person on the receiving end needs to have an account set up. Sending videos through Google Photos would mean that the receiving end would only need an internet connection.

The best thing you can do is sign up for the beta

If this feature does actually land on devices, there are people who want to be on the front line to test it out. There’s an option to join the beta for Google Messages. This doesn’t guarantee that you’ll get the feature first, but it’s worth a shot. Just go to Google Messages on the Play Store; under the contact developer option, you should see the option to join the beta program.
