Feelings toward TikTok-esque videos are pretty divided: either you love them or you have a heated disdain for them. Whatever the case, the company proudly reported that Shorts reached a daily view count of more than 30 billion earlier this year. Any way you slice it, that’s a lot, and the company is looking to continue that thunder.

You will be able to watch YouTube Shorts on your smart TV

Since YouTube unveiled Shorts, you’ve never been able to cast the short videos to other devices and they haven’t been accessible from the TV app. This means that you can only watch them on your phone. That makes sense, as they’re meant to be viewed on smartphones. However, YouTube is still planning on bringing Shorts to your smart TV. YouTube attended an internal partner event at Google’s headquarters about the company’s TV platforms: Google TV and Android TV. At the event, YouTube explained that it wants to make its TV app able to stream Shorts. A presentation slide was made by the company and it shows how it will appear on the TV.

Showing a vertical video on a landscape device will, undoubtedly, leave a lot of empty space, so YouTube put some of it to good use. We see the video front and center. On the right of it, we see the Like/Dislike buttons with a three-dot button next to them. Above those, you’ll see the name of the channel, the title of the video, and the title of the song if the Short involves music. This update to the app will be coming over the next couple of months, so you’ll want to keep an eye out for it if you want to watch shorts on your TV.
